Use these Natural Ingredients for Your Skin Care This Winter

Most of us can always use some natural winter skin care tips, because during the winter, dry indoor heat and low humidity outdoors can combine to cause itchy, dry skin. Just putting lotion on your skin isn’t enough. In fact, depending on the ingredients of the lotion, it could actually be making your dry skin worse. To take care of your family’s skin this winter, try some natural approaches that work inside and out. Here are some tips.

* Cut back on soap. Most of us lather up and scrub in a hot shower or bath without really thinking about it. But your skin does not need to be scrubbed with harsh soap daily. Reserve deodorant soap for key areas of your body, such as under your arms and on the bottom of your feet, and use a mild cleanser on the rest of your skin. Continue reading

How is Solar Energy Produced?

In this day and age of growing technology, scientists are working diligently to find ways to harness solar energy in order to power the Earth. Producing cars and products powered by solar energy will reduce the emission of harmful gasses and chemicals into the atmosphere. Our Earth is a precious commodity and we need to take care to protect it.

What is solar energy? Solar energy is radiant heat and light that is emanated from the Sun. This light helps to influence the climate on Earth and allows not only humans and animals – but also fish to live. Solar energy has been harnessed for power since the ancient times by humans through the use of different technologies.

The Earth can receive 174 petawatts of solar radiation or insolation in its upper atmosphere. Close to 30% of that is reflected back into space and the rest is absorbed by the clouds, land masses, and the oceans. The spectrum of solar light on the surface of the Earth is predominantly spread across near infrared and visible ranges and a small part in the near ultraviolet. The solar light that is absorbed is able to heat the land surface, atmosphere, and oceans.

Solar energy as well as hydroelectricity, wind, and wave power make up 99.97% of the renewable energy that is available on the Earth. The total amount of solar energy that the Earth’s atmosphere, land masses, and oceans absorbs is close to 3,850 zettajoules a year. Studies show that in 2002 this was more energy in one single hour then what the world would use in a total year.

The amount of solar energy that the Earth’s surface can capture is so large that in a single year it will be twice the amount that we can obtain from non-renewable resources of oil, coal, and natural gas. Because of this consumers themselves are seeking to purchase their own solar energy systems to help save them money and to keep the Earth safe.

Understanding what Solar Energy Is and why most people find it important will give us an insight on way that we can Harness It.

Sources of Calcium The Top Ten Food Sources of Calcium

Sources of calcium, the top ten food sources of calcium, and we all are aware of the fact that health professionals do emphasize the importance of calcium in our diets, especially for women. There are good reasons for this emphasis – this nutrient is essential for strong bones (especially in post-menopausal women), proper muscle and nerve function, and proper blood clotting. Food sources are best for obtaining this mineral. Supplements may not be “bioavailable,” or easily absorbed by the body.

Adult men and pre-menopausal women need about 1000 milligrams of it a day, and women need about 1200 milligrams after menopause. Here are ten of the top foods that are good sources of calcium.

1. Plain Yogurt
One 8-ounce cup of plain yogurt contains anywhere from 415 to 452 milligrams of the mineral. Because of the live cultures in yogurt, it is absorbed better than the calcium in 8 ounces of milk. Continue reading

Moon Map View Latest From NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO)

This is the latest moon map taken from the NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is a topographic map taken with a Wide Angle Camera. The science team that oversees the imaging system on board NASA’s LRO has released the highest resolution near-global topographic map of the moon ever created.

This new topographic map, from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona shows the surface shape and features over nearly the entire moon with a pixel scale close to 100 meters or 328 feet. A single measure of elevation or the equivalent of one pixel is about the size of two football fields placed side-by-side.

Seeing as the moon is our closest neighbor, knowledge of its morphology is still obviously limited. Due to instrumental limitations of previous missions, a global map of the moon’s topography at high resolution has not been possible until recently. With the LRO Wide Angle Camera and the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) instrumentation, scientists can now accurately portray the shape of the entire moon at high resolution. Continue reading

The The large Pharmaceutical Abbott Laboratories reported on Wednesday that the voluntary infant formula recall may affect upwards of five million of their Similac-brand powder formulas sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and some Caribbean countries. Abbott Laboratories said that the recalled products have a remote possibility that they contain small beetle parts or larvae, which could have side effects such as a stomach ache and digestion problems and create eating problems for young infants. A company spokeswoman said Abbott discovered the insects last week in the Sturgis, Michigan manufacturing plant. “We immediately shut down that one area and began an investigation,” said Abbott’s spokeswoman Melissa Brotz. “We’re in the process of resolving it now.” Abbott currently manufactures Similac at several U.S. sites. This recall mat result in a loss of one hundred million dollars or more in revenue. The recalls came after two consumers complained of contamination and the inspection at the plant in Michigan. The recalls were also made before the consumer reports were made public, according to their spokeswoman. Continue reading
