10 Simple Headache Cures to Relieve Headaches1.) Diet: Your diet can play a role in your getting headaches. Do certain foods seem to trigger them? If so, then it would be a good idea to remove those foods from your diet altogether. People are all different, and we all react differently to different food items, particularly the ingredients so it is vitally important that you are aware of what you are eating and when the attacks occur. If they become a major issue, it may be a good idea to keep a headache diary, and include time and foods eaten prior to an event. This is more of a prevention mode than a cure, but it works!
2.) Exercising: Exercise increases the blood flow and circulation throughout the body and allows for more oxygen to get to your brain. Exercising before and after headaches should be done, however it may not be so easy to predict when one will occur, so doing so before an attack is just guess work, making this one of the more difficult cures. If you do exercise regularly though, it should be a good prevention technique, and will also help to reduce stress and tension, thereby reducing the risk of an attack. Again, this is more of a prevention technique, but it works quite well, and it will make you feel better too!
3.) Deep Massage: Massage therapy is great at reducing stress and tension, and if you use that technique on your head, face and neck it can help to get rid of that nasty headache very quickly!
4.) Water: Dehydration has been shown to be one of the most common causes for headaches, so drinking a tall glass of cool, refreshing water may be all you need to relieve that pain in the head!
5.) Hot Shower: Standing in a hot shower and allowing the water to flow down your head, neck and back should loosen up tight muscles and create a better blood flow, and can be used with a soap from #6.
6.) Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy is rapidly advancing as one of the best and most well known headache remedies around because it works so well! Sandalwood, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, and a wide assortment of other natural oils can be used to reduce, if not eliminate the pain. These scents typically are found in oils, candles, and even soaps.
7.) Ice Packs: This technique can be beneficial in reducing inflammation. Taking anything frozen, an ice pack, cold towel, bag of frozen veggies, or anything cold and apply it to the forehead or back of the neck, depending on where the pain is and keep it on for 5 to 10 minutes. If applying to forehead, remember if it is on too long, it could make it worse, so put a towel between the ice pack and your forehead!
8.) Pressure Points: Pressure points is the most underrated cure, try applying pressure where the bones for your index finger and thumb meet and apply pressure to this spot for 2 minutes. Acupressure is a more common term for this technique.
9.) Calcium: Calcium helps to relax the muscles and increase blood flow which can help alleviate the pain, or if you are without calcium, a large glass of orange juice should suffice. Experts recommend a calcium supplement with both magnesium and calcium for maximum relief.
10.) R & R: Good old fashioned rest and relaxation is a good way to unwind from our hectic lifestyles, and headaches can be an indicator that you are overworking and too stressed. A little R & R can help, just lay down and take a mini nap or a power nap and relax for a bit.
