According to the Pentagon, there was no testing going on in the immediate area around the suspected area by any local military bases. The United States government claims to be as much in the dark as we are, and are not sure what the object was, nor whom may have launched it into the atmosphere on Monday night. The United States Defense Department, among other experts claim that the flying object didn’t appear to be of any known military ordnance. Others claim that it may have even been an airplane. The event is officially being labeled as “unexplained” by officials, and is not considered to be a threat of any kind at this time by the Northern Command, and that “it was not a launch by a foreign military.”
The object appeared to have been launched from about 35 miles offshore and west of Los Angeles, California. The Navy also confirmed that it did not originate from one of their launching sites or from any Navy activities. Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Robert Ellsworth, also a former Deputy Secretary of Defense, called the projectile “a big missile.” The current theory is that the it could have been a ICBM test timed as a demonstration of American military might as President Obama tours the continent of Asia, where several of our nemesis reside, North Korea, and China being the top 2. Ellsworth also speculated that “it could be a test firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine, to demonstrate, mainly to Asia, that we can do that.” Similar tests were conducted out over the Atlantic as a show of power to the Soviets when the cold war was still a reality, Ellsworth stated, although he doesn’t believe any such ICBM testing has been conducted out over the Pacific Ocean yet. There has also been speculation that this may have been a commercial venture, but not confirmed either. And if it were a commercial venture, it would require coordination with the FAA and maritime agencies to ensure no civilian aircraft or boats enter a maritime splash or launch area.
To make this mystery even more confusing, the FAA stated that in a radar replay of a large area west of Los Angeles did not reveal any unidentified fast moving objects in the area in the moments of the mystery launch off the coast of California. The FAA also has stated that it hasn’t received any reports of any unusual sightings from pilots who were flying in that area on Monday afternoon. Below is the video that you can view, and determine for yourself what the mystery missile launch in California actually is! Will the real launcher please step forward!
