This earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 and was located at a depth of about 36 miles (57 km). The magnitude and location may change slightly as additional data are received and processed. This event was felt widely in the Kenai and Cook Inlet region. The strongest shaking was reported in Sterling and Soldotna. No reports of this event causing damage have been received at this time.

The moderately sized earthquake was centered about 50 miles southwest of Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage, and struck at 11:06 a.m. Alaska time, according to the National Weather Service’s West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center. No tsunami warnings were issued. Many people in Anchorage and outlying communities reported feeling the quake, which struck Alaska’s most densely populated region.
