Sustainable Energy - The Future is Clear We Must Move Forward With SE

Sustainable energy (SE), with it the future is clear, and much cleaner for that matter! No matter how you look at it, it is one of the most critical aspects of us moving forward and keeping our existing way of life intact. Unfortunately, technology dictates that we need energy, but the sources of that energy are optional. We need it to fuel our transportation, heat our homes, power our computers, phones, lights, and other necessities. Currently we derive only 13% of our total electricity from renewable sources, and that doesn’t include transportation! Currently fossil fuels power most of our energy sources, in the form of coal and oil, or gas. These fuels produce greenhouse gas emissions which is a byproduct of their combustion, which by itself isn’t that harmful, but in the massive quantities we are using it, it is a big problem.

As we previously said, some greenhouse gas emissions are part of the carbon cycle, and in limited use, it isn’t going to affect things all that much, but we have bypassed that plateau of safe usage a long time ago, and in combination with deforestation and other similar events, we are creating a big surplus of greenhouse gas emissions that the planet can’t absorb or cycle properly, thus we are altering the carbon cycle and the chemical makeup of our atmosphere, which is resulting in global warming, or now more commonly referred to as climate change. Happy Earth Day Everybody!

Why Earth day do you ask? Many have asked the question why Earth Day since its inception on April 22nd, 1970 I imagine. Lets begin with a brief history on this historic event. This year, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the original day which was celebrated on April 22nd, 1970. Those were troubled times, with the Vietnam War, Anti-War Protests, and then April 22nd. What is Fair Trade? - Fair Trade More Ethical Than Free Trade Giving Brighter Economic Future

What is fair trade you ask? We can use Fair trade (FT) to create a brighter future for many people around the world. Today our world is overly profit oriented and we are experiencing social and economic inequalities not witnessed since the turn of the last century. These inequalities are primarily due to greed, selfishness, and ‘it is only about me’. These inequalities leave millions of people around the world without the basic necessities such as food, water, housing, education, and health care among other things. All across the globe, there are millions of small farmers that are being dramatically and negatively affected by globalization, modern international trade policies, and third world debt and are subsequently losing their farms, livelihoods and are unable to feed their families or provide for the other basic necessities of life. Under similar circumstances are landless workers who are seeing worsening working conditions, lower pay and unsafe working environments as developing countries compete to attract foreign investment by offering the cheapest labor available. Not only is this creating worse working conditions abroad, it is also creating worse working condition’s in developed nations as jobs continue to be scarce, and conservative policies are rolling back workers rights and reforms which were fought hard for over the past century. Peace Building A Vision of World Peace in Mankind’s Fight For Survival

Peace Building A Vision of World Peace in Mankind's Fight For Survival - Can we battle nationalism and imperialism? - Is there any better time to start than this holiday season when peace on Earth and goodwill to man is the theme?

Some of us may have different ideas of world peace and of peace building, and these may seem like a vision that is unattainable to some, if not most of us at times. Nationalism and imperialism seem to be major obstacles in attaining these goals, as we will further review those two topics later on in the article. To begin with, from the Free Dictionary by Farlex.

  • Peace
    1. The absence of war or other hostilities.
    2. An agreement or a treaty to end hostilities.
    3. Freedom from quarrels and disagreement; harmonious relations.
    4. Public Security and order.
    5. Inner contentment, serenity (peace of mind).

The timing for this article seems truly important, as on one hand we have destructive weather stretching across the globe, and we have ongoing wars that seem to have no ongoing peace building attempts, and world peace is but a far reach at best. It is also the holidays, where peace on Earth and goodwill towards man is the theme, and that for most of us, we put our differences away for a few days, and celebrate the birth of Christ, a live together in peace and harmony for the most part. Some of us even manage a smile and some courtesies we normally would not bother with. Continue Reading Peace Building A Vision of World Peace in Mankind’s Fight For Survival Here

Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? How to Find out if your Electricity is Renewable or Non-Renewable

Is electricity renewable? How to find out if your electricity is renewable or non-renewable. As it currently stands, our current grid and sources of energy come from a wide variety of sources and is not limited to a single power source. To begin with, first we must determine what the renewable and non-renewable energy sources are before we can fully understand and answer this question with a degree of honesty.

Electricity ball

In short, electricity is largely produced by power stations burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. Nuclear fission can also be used to produce electricity from nuclear power plants. All these sources of energy are not renewable, which means that there is a finite, or limited amount of these fuels available in the world and when it is all used up, that’s it, there will be no more.

On the other hand, hydro, wind, tidal, geothermal, biomass, and solar power are all regarded as sustainable and renewable forms of energy because they aren’t finite and limited to available resources. We use the energy we obtain from these sources and it still keeps coming, it will not run out! Continue Reading Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? Donations to Japan Being Delayed up to 90 Days By Phone Companies

Donations to Japan Being Delayed up to 90 Days By Phone Companies so please sign the petition or send your donation to another place from our list here or both!

Many of you good hearted souls have been sending donations for Japan, and some of those are through a text message. The phone companies are the likes of AT&T and Verizon among others that are delaying these funds for up to 90 days before they are released to the relief organizations. These same companies are getting free advertising and press for the text-to-donate programs as well. They implemented the same tactic for the Haiti disaster, although after pressure from the likes of Change.org, they came through. There is a new petition to demand that AT&T, Verizon and the other major phone service providers to stop the delay of the much needed money from reaching it’s final destination of the relief organizations at ground zero whom are participating in the relief efforts. Masaya Uchino, a law student from San Francisco with family in Japan initiated this petition, which can be found here at Stop the delay on donations to Japan petition”.
