Solar Tower in Mojave desert, now thats some energy!

Ethics of solar power and global warming so why wouldn’t anyone want to get a free lifetime supply electricity? Well, that can be achieved only if you decide to install a dependable and durable solar power system. Solar energy is of course always free, at least in daylight, and only after you install a solar energy system. Conventional electricity is created from the process of burning fossil fuels which in turn create co2 emissions among other toxic emissions and contribute to global warming. The effects of climate change due to rapid global warming are quite evident today. The ethics of solar power and global warming is fairly straightforward. Using solar energy is the ethical thing to do, in any amount. Continue reading “Ethics of Solar Power and Global Warming” »

Happy Earth Day Everybody!

Why Earth day do you ask? Many have asked the question why Earth Day since its inception on April 22nd, 1970 I imagine. Lets begin with a brief history on this historic event. This year, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the original day which was celebrated on April 22nd, 1970. Those were troubled times, with the Vietnam War, Anti-War Protests, and then April 22nd. Ethanol Ethics

ethanol ethics, co2 emissions

Can't have your corn and eat it too Mr. President!

Ethanol ethics, quite frankly, I never saw the point of ethanol. It does, however, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 20 percent. It also reduces gas mileage, by as much as 33 percent (E10), and it also costs as much as .74 btu of fossil fuel for every 1 btu of energy, so that is only a 26 percent gain in energy produced, and that energy is fossil fuel based, so that means more greenhouse gases to produce it. Another factor to consider is that for every increase in ethanol mixtures for our gasoline, there also comes a reduction in miles per gallon, thus, more cost to us as consumers. It also is a conflict of interests, and serious conflicts for that matter. The battle for food resources comes into play, as more resources are being used to produce ethanol for energy, less can be used for human and animal food production. That conflict alone must bring ethics into the management of ethanol policies for the U.S. and what impact our policies have on the worlds food supply. Continue reading “Ethanol Ethics” »

Low-Oxygen-Level Zones in our Oceans Worrying Scientists which from an article on Yahoo News(2) suggest that the lower levels of oxygen in our planets oceans, and more directly, the Pacific Northwest of the United States could be another sign of deep-seated global changes linked to climate change. Scientists warn that the oceans complex ecosystem and fragile food chains could be altered. Continue reading “Low-Oxygen-Level Zones in our Oceans Worrying Scientists” »

2010 Climate Bill

2010 Climate Bill,global warming,elimate change,believe global warming,global warming hoax,global,warming,climate,money,change,believe,economy,like,children,hoax

Fate of the 2010 climate bill

The 2010 Climate Bill appears to be dead according to a dozen of our senators out of 16 surveyed. With the economy still a mess and jobs scarce, lawmakers see little chance of passing legislation which might hinder economic recovery and growth. The amount of people whom believe climate change and global warming are a hoax has more than doubled, and those whom do believe that global warming is real and caused by humans is at 10 percent. So now they are talking about expanding offshore drilling, building more nuclear power plants and requiring a portion of the U.S. electric supply to be generated by renewable sources.

Ethics of Wind Power and Solar Power, wind turbine farm out west.

Going back to the basics is the trend these days, confirming the ethics of wind power and solar power. A growing number of people are now fully aware of the many problems in the world that we created, and are now faced including pollution, depletion of our natural resources, ever increasing populations, and many others. With so many issues we need to deal with, people just don’t have any idea of where to start. In fact, this issue alone may be the reason for some to do nothing, or deny any of the current issues plaguing us today. You don’t have to be a hero and do it by yourself to help save the planet and address its many woes. Here is a thought, take it one day at a time, in baby steps and contribute what you can today, and as it becomes a habit and you are more comfortable with it, it will become a way of life. Change isn’t easy for some, but in time it becomes a way of life, just like learning to walk or ride a bike, it takes practice. We can start today in our own little way by learning about and eventually using both of these sustainable energy sources! Continue reading “Ethics of Wind Power and Solar Power” »

Preserve Natural Resources Recycling Natural Resources

Preserve Natural Resources Recycling Natural Resources, natural, resources, water, planet, food, preserve, actions, air, begin, daily

This is an example of taking for granted the air we breath, as we pollute it with tons of toxic chemicals and gases daily

How to preserve natural resources begins with recycling natural resources. Let’s face it, all the resources we have are not infinite, except wind and sun energy. Oil, metals, and other materials are finite in nature, and most are not replaceable unless we recycle them.

We do have the trees, plants, and food which we are able to replant and grow anew from seeds but those have limitations as well. We use more and more plant and food plants in the form of ethanol to support our fatal addiction to automobiles and oil, in an effort to reduce our co2 emissions, which puts a strain on the worlds food supplies and also raises the prices of all types of food, including meat and dairy due to higher feed costs. Why Bees are Disappearing

why bees are disappearing,bees,pesticides,bee,die,epa,disappearing,federal,pollen,recent,cause

Bees have been disappearing at increasing levels over the last 4 years and are responsible for 1/3 of our food supply!

Why bees are disappearing is a complex subject, but at the top of the list according to a recent federal study confirms that the honeybees’ pollen and their hives are laden with pesticides. Another factor is that a bad winter has worsened the already worrisome bee die-off with a large die-off this last winter. This is of concern to everyone, as approximately one-third of our food supply comes from plants which require pollination from our friends, the bees.

Federal agencies and regulators are scrutinizing chemicals and pesticides used in fields and orchards, while the Federal Court is looking into whether or not the EPA overlooked a requirement when allowing a pesticide into the market. Continue reading “Why Bees are Disappearing” »

BP Gulf Oil Spill The Cost of Our Dependency on Oil

BP gulf oil spill the cost of our dependency on oil, while oil flows into the gulf faster than our cars, one has to wonder. As of April 28th, 2010 Ian R McDonald, an oceanography professor at Florida State University estimates that 8 to 9 million gallons of oil had already spilled from his examinations of Coast Guard charts and satellite images. It is also estimated that 200,000 gallons are being leaked daily according to a US Coast Guard spokesman.

New fears are arising that it will continue to grow, and in the last couple of days the slick on the water has tripled in size, which may indicate increasing leakage from the well. No one is sure when or how it will be stopped at this point either. At last reports the oil slick is the size of Puerto Rico, which is roughly 3,500 square miles, or the size of Connecticut. The oil is now beginning to wash ashore in several areas. Continue reading “BP Gulf Oil Spill The Cost of Our Dependency on Oil” »
