Environmental Technology Aspects

Environmental technology, or commonly referred to as envirotech, is also known as green technology, or greentech for short, and can also be termed clean technology, or cleantech for short is defined as the application of one or more of the following; environmental science, green chemistry, environmental monitoring and electronic devices which either monitor, model or conserve the natural environment and resources, and to minimize the negative impacts of human interactions with the environment. The term can also be used to describe sustainable or renewable energy generation technologies such as Photovoltaic’s (solar power), Wind Turbine’s (wind energy), Bioreactors, and other clean or renewable energy technologies. Sustainable development is at the core of environmental technologies. The term environmental technologies is also used to describe a class of electronic devices that can promote sustainable management of resources.

Currently we have wasteful energy policies, an overuse of natural resources, water supply shortages, man-made global climate change, and deforestation on massive scales are just some of the current issues experts say that we need to be address for humans as a species to achieve sustainable living on this planet. By the year 2025, an estimated addition of 2.9 billion people will strain already strained water supplies, and the world’s energy needs will go up by as much as 60 percent by 2030, according to the United Nations so environmental technology will play a crucial role in our maintaining a sustainable balance. Record Shattering March Heat Wave Surprises Scientists

Record shattering March heat wave sent people to the beaches in droves

The record shattering March heat wave has come as a surprise even to a majority of scientists. In fact, it’s been so warm in the United States alone this year, especially in March, that national records weren’t just shattered, they were literally baked!

Temperatures in the U.S. for the lower 48 states averaged 8.6 degrees above normal for March alone and an astonishing 6 degrees higher than average for the entire first three months of the year 2012, according to calculations made by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). That by far exceeds, or shatters in our opinion the existing records.

Some meteorologists who have warned about the effects of global warming have become alarmed at the magnitude of how unusual the year has been in the United States. One climate scientist said the record march heat wave is like the weather equivalent of a baseball player on steroids, with old records being obliterated, like the home run records during the big steroid era in major league baseball. Mass Extinction Events Sixth Mass Extinction Event in Oceans from Human Carbon Emissions Likely

Mass Extinction Events Sixth Mass Extinction Event in Oceans from Human Carbon Emissions Likely And Not From A More Likely Source Like This Asteroid Pictured Here

As mass extinction events go, humans may be creating the sixth mass extinction event in oceans from carbon emissions created by man. Many will of course proclaim differently, stating that mankind isn’t responsible, and the deniers will call us all loony left wing liberals or tree huggers, or eco Nazis, well so be it, but the facts are there.

The rate at which oceans are currently acidifying is faster than any rate over the last 300 million years. During that time span, there were four mass extinctions researchers discovered. During those four mass extinction events, the increase in CO₂ in the atmosphere not only warmed the planet but made the oceans more acidic as well. These changes are directly linked with major climate shifts and mass extinction events. Clean Energy Fuel What Are They?

Clean energy fuel definitions can greatly vary depending on who you ask

Clean energy fuel definitions vary, depending on who you ask or where you look to for an answer. Some people think natural gas is a clean burning energy source and it is widely advertised as being “clean”, however it is not clean by any means. When we look at the power plant, the burning of natural gas produces nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide, but in lower quantities than burning coal or oil.

Methane (CH₄) is a primary component of natural gas and a highly potent greenhouse gas which can also be emitted into the air when the gas is not burned properly and completely. Similarly, methane can be emitted as the result of leaks and losses during transportation. Emissions of sulfur dioxide and mercury compounds from burning natural gas are negligible.

Methane remains in the atmosphere for approximately 9-15 years and is 25 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO₂) over a 100-year period and 72 times more potent over a 20 year period. It is emitted from a variety of natural and human-influenced sources. The human-influenced sources include landfills, natural gas and petroleum systems, agricultural activities, coal mining, stationary and mobile combustion, waste-water treatment, and certain industrial processes. Vast Pool of Arctic Fresh Water Could Cool Europe According to British Scientists

Vast Pool of Arctic Fresh Water Could Cool Europe According to British Scientists

According to British Scientists, a vast pool of expanding Arctic fresh water could cool Europe potentially causing another ice age. This is something that we suspected for some time now, and was portrayed in the movie Day After Tomorrow, however in the movie portrayed, it was much more extreme.

In real life, the scientists have determined that the fresh water pool is expanding and could lower the temperature of Europe by causing the ocean current to slow down. In the movie, the Gulf Stream shuts down altogether, unleashing an abrupt climate shift and the onset of the next Ice Age. List of Worst Storms - Natural Disasters 2011

List of Worst Storms – Natural Disasters 2011

Our list of worst natural disasters – storms of 2011 has grown in size since the 2010 list we did. 2011 was worse in terms of natural disasters. Regions from around the world were literally slammed with extreme weather events and catastrophes resulting in huge economic costs and devastation not to mention massive death tolls devastating populations. Does climate change play a role in all this, more than likely, as these once termed ‘storms of the century’ are now occurring nearly every year and getting worse every year for that matter as well.

The U.S. again broke its record for billion-dollar weather disasters. The Associated Press reported that in 2011, the U.S. saw more weather catastrophes costing at least $1 billion in damage each than it had experienced throughout all of the 1980s.

Devastating Tornadoes ripped through the U.S., devastating cities like as Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Joplin, Missouri.

One of the biggest stories of the year was the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March, killing thousands and wreaking havoc at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.

Heat waves over the summer scorched the U.S. and Texas suffered from fires and its worst drought in decades. An earthquake rattled the East Coast in October, and Hurricane Irene followed shortly thereafter. Continue Reading List of Worst Storms – Natural Disasters 2011 Here
