Permaculture Design seems prevalent in this community

Permaculture design, or “Permaculture” is a combination of the words “permanent” and “agriculture.” This theory was originally coined an agro-ecological design, it has developed a large international following. This Permaculture Community continues to develop new ideas expanding on old ones, and has resulted in it becoming a form of architecture for nature and ecology. The first modern practice of it as a systematic method recorded was by Sepp Holzer, an Austrian farmer, in the 1960′s. It was officially developed scientifically by two Australians, Bill Mollison and David Holmgren and some of their associates during the 1970′s with a series of publications. It refers to the integration of human beings with nature, with the goal of creating self-sustaining ecosystems which mimic the relationships of man and nature in natural ecologies.

With this system, the goal is to create a stable, productive system that will provide for the humans needs, Continue Reading Permaculture How To Apply Permaculture Design To Your Own Home Here

Children And The Environment How to Raise Environmentally Responsible Kids

If you are concerned about the future of your children and the environment, it makes sense to raise your children to be environmentally responsible. After all, the future belongs to them. Investing in your kids and making them aware of the planet is one of the most environmentally responsible things you can do.

Here are some ideas on how you can raise your kids to respect the planet and want to preserve it.

* Foster a love of nature in your kids. Get out into it and go on hikes, field trips (literally), picnics, cookouts, camping, and fishing trips. Consider getting bikes for the family and going out biking in the woods or on trails. Take your kids to play in a nearby park or encourage them to play outdoors in your yard. This means limiting television and other electronic pursuits. Continue Reading Children And The Environment How to Raise Environmentally Responsible Kids Here

How to Plant a Tree In Easy Steps

How to Plant a Tree In Easy Steps

How to plant a tree isn’t always a simple as it may seem. If you want to have that tree grow and survive for a long period of time, there are some important steps which you should follow to ensure you do have success when you plant a new tree.

How To Plant a Tree

Step 1: Planting Season – You should choose the correct time of the year to plant a tree. Late spring or summertime are not good due to the fact that the heat can stress it and may cause it to whither and die. For best results, the best time of the year to plant a tree is in fall or early spring.

Step 2: Digging Requirements and Guidelines – Make sure to check with any local diggers hotlines to make sure you do not cut an electric, gas, cable, or phone line! This could prove to be both dangerous and costly! Also check with your local officials to see if there are any other guidelines or regulations which you need to follow.

Step 3: Choosing the Right Tree – Do a little research into local native species in your area. Native species will ultimately do better and fit in with the local eco-system as well.

Step 4: Digging the Hole: Preparing a hole for the tree can be time consuming. Take your shovel and dig your hole 2 to 3 times that of the root balls width,

not merely enough for it to ‘just fit’! This will allow the roots to spread more easily and grow normally into the soil. It will also give you room to cut off any wire root baskets if there are any.

The Philosophy

A love of nature is what often inspires builders, manufacturers, and owners of these unique living quarters. After all, living in a tree is living close to nature – surrounded by it, in fact. And these houses use the natural structure of the tree to support the home’s structure. They like the “living” nature of this type of house that moves and creaks in the wind. You Can Take Lessons For Beekeeping Like These Folks Here!

Keeping bees holds intrigue and interest for many, but the practice of beekeeping is more than just a pastime: it is becoming vital. Honeybee numbers have dwindled over the last five decades. Their decline has been variously attributed to disease, exposure to pesticides, climate change, and a mono-crop approach to agriculture. Regardless of the causes, the decline of the honeybee – officially called Colony Collapse disorder, or CCD – has the potential to affect humanity profoundly.
