Relaxation exercises can help to relieve stress symptoms and can help you to have a higher quality of life, particularly if you have an illness. There are various options for these exercises, both physical and mental that you can easily perform all by yourself, or if you choose, with family and friends for relaxation. However you choose to do it, it will be well worth it for both your mental and physical health, and add to your quality of life!

For myself, I found that vigorous workouts helped to reduce stress quite a bit, and also improved my overall health and well-being. Lifting weights is a great way to accomplish both of those. Many people write off weightlifting, but it has tremendous benefits. After you reach age 40, your muscles naturally begin to waste away, so you can maintain those with weightlifting. Another good thing to point out is that as you age, your bone density decreases as well, and weightlifting counteracts this as well. It also gets your endorphins pumping, and will relieve you of your stress. Weightlifting isn’t for everyone, but I would recommend it, even if it is just light weights a few times a week. If you think you have depression, the first thing to do is to get appropriate treatment by visiting a doctor or a mental health specialist. In some instances, certain medications and some medical conditions such as viruses or thyroid disorder can create the same symptoms as depression. A health care professional can rule out any alternative possibilities by doing a complete physical exam, interview, and some lab tests. If they find no medical conditions which may be causing it, they will perform a psych evaluation. During your evaluation you should discuss your symptoms, when they started, how long you have been experiencing them, the severity of them, if they are re-occurring, and if you are using alcohol or drugs, or if you are contemplating suicide. Phytochemicals for a healthier and happier you and your loved ones!

Phytochemicals is a general term used to describe a wide variety of compounds produced by plants. They are commonly found in fruits and vegetables, and scientists have identified thousands of them, however, they have only studied a handful of them to date. There are also other common names given to phytochemicals, such as antioxidants, flavonoids, isoflavones (soy products), catechins, polyphenols, and some that you might recognize with the more common household names such as beta carotene, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), folic acid, and vitamin E.

Some phytochemicals have either an antioxidant or hormone-like action, and there is some solid evidence pointing to a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables with whole grains reduces the risk of certain strains of cancer and other diseases. Researchers are currently studying these looking for those specific compounds in those foods that may be responsible for the beneficial properties to us. The scientific evidence however does not support claims that taking any photochemical supplements is as beneficial as getting them from the fruits, vegetables, beans and grains themselves.
