Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? How to Find out if your Electricity is Renewable or Non-Renewable

Is electricity renewable? How to find out if your electricity is renewable or non-renewable. As it currently stands, our current grid and sources of energy come from a wide variety of sources and is not limited to a single power source. To begin with, first we must determine what the renewable and non-renewable energy sources are before we can fully understand and answer this question with a degree of honesty.

In short, electricity is largely produced by power stations burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. Nuclear fission can also be used to produce electricity from nuclear power plants. All these sources of energy are not renewable, which means that there is a finite, or limited amount of these fuels available in the world and when it is all used up, that’s it, there will be no more.

On the other hand, hydro, wind, tidal, geothermal, biomass, and solar power are all regarded as sustainable and renewable forms of energy because they aren’t finite and limited to available resources. We use the energy we obtain from these sources and it still keeps coming, it will not run out! Continue Reading Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? Environmental Technology Aspects

Environmental technology, or commonly referred to as envirotech, is also known as green technology, or greentech for short, and can also be termed clean technology, or cleantech for short is defined as the application of one or more of the following; environmental science, green chemistry, environmental monitoring and electronic devices which either monitor, model or conserve the natural environment and resources, and to minimize the negative impacts of human interactions with the environment. The term can also be used to describe sustainable or renewable energy generation technologies such as Photovoltaic’s (solar power), Wind Turbine’s (wind energy), Bioreactors, and other clean or renewable energy technologies. Sustainable development is at the core of environmental technologies. The term environmental technologies is also used to describe a class of electronic devices that can promote sustainable management of resources.

Currently we have wasteful energy policies, an overuse of natural resources, water supply shortages, man-made global climate change, and deforestation on massive scales are just some of the current issues experts say that we need to be address for humans as a species to achieve sustainable living on this planet. By the year 2025, an estimated addition of 2.9 billion people will strain already strained water supplies, and the world’s energy needs will go up by as much as 60 percent by 2030, according to the United Nations so environmental technology will play a crucial role in our maintaining a sustainable balance. Space Solar Power Space Based Solar Power Satellites to Beam Solar Power to Earth

Space solar power – space based solar power satellites to beam solar power to earth, beam me up Scotty! Most of us who are reasonable can conclude that we need to transition our power structure from toxic, non-renewable sources to clean, renewable, sustainable choices such as solar. This brings us to the edge of new technology and moving forward with these technologies.

One such technology has been around for decades, as researchers have been appraising the use of power-beaming solar-power satellites. But the projected cost, complexity and energy economics of this technology made the concept a non-starter.

Today, however, a new, enhanced, unique approach has been developed, dubbed SPS-ALPHA, short for Solar Power Satellite via Arbitrarily Large Phased Array. Leader of the space based solar power satellites concept is John Mankins of Artemis Innovation Management Solutions of Santa Maria, Calif.

Mankins provided a detailed overview of the power-beaming concept here during the 2012 NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts meeting March 27-29. Continue Reading Space Solar Power Space Based Solar Power Satellites to Beam Solar Power to Earth Here

Renewable Energy Policy Important to Future of Planet

Renewable Energy Policy Important to Future of Planet, but more importantly, to mankind's future

Renewable energy policy (RE) – (REP) is important to the future of the planet, and for all the inhabitants, including mankind. With the current Middle East tensions creating another surge in oil price speculation, the prices of gas and other oil related products also rise, including food. In fact, according to CNN, Wall Street greed fueling high gas prices, as the laws of supply and demand don’t apply to the price of oil. Demand in the U.S. today is at the lowest level since 1997.

Most recently, at Obama’s 2012 State of the Union Address Energy, he laid out a half dozen energy proposals, however, most of the policies he announced were either previously announced, stand little chance of passing through congress, or not that big of a deal. According to Jose Valera, a Houston based lawyer in the energy practice at the global law firm Mayer Brown, “It’s a smart, well balanced, welcome policy, and everybody is a winner.”

While the traditional fossil fuels will still play an important role in the future while we transition to renewables, in technologies like wind and solar, Obama called for extending tax credits that basically give these firms a 30% subsidy and also called for the federal government to allow renewable projects on its land. Clean Energy Fuel What Are They?

Clean energy fuel definitions can greatly vary depending on who you ask

Clean energy fuel definitions vary, depending on who you ask or where you look to for an answer. Some people think natural gas is a clean burning energy source and it is widely advertised as being “clean”, however it is not clean by any means. When we look at the power plant, the burning of natural gas produces nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide, but in lower quantities than burning coal or oil.

Methane (CH₄) is a primary component of natural gas and a highly potent greenhouse gas which can also be emitted into the air when the gas is not burned properly and completely. Similarly, methane can be emitted as the result of leaks and losses during transportation. Emissions of sulfur dioxide and mercury compounds from burning natural gas are negligible.

Methane remains in the atmosphere for approximately 9-15 years and is 25 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO₂) over a 100-year period and 72 times more potent over a 20 year period. It is emitted from a variety of natural and human-influenced sources. The human-influenced sources include landfills, natural gas and petroleum systems, agricultural activities, coal mining, stationary and mobile combustion, waste-water treatment, and certain industrial processes. Renewable and Non Renewable Energy Sources Explained

Renewable and Non Renewable Energy Sources Explained

Renewable and non renewable energy sources explained will help you to understand the differences between the two and determine which is better. For this explanation, we are referring to electrical energy or energy to run our vehicles, boats, and other forms of transportation. The two combined are the driving factors behind both our economy and our society as a whole, for without either we would almost be back in the dark ages so to speak.

That day will come when we will be without coal and oil, however there are alternative sources of energy available to us which we are finally beginning to utilize more of. Fossil fuels are not good for the environment so to help protect our planet, it is wise for us to move forward with alternative energy for our future energy needs.
