MLK Quotes I Have a Dream Speech Text

“I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. The bill that could rattle the world! I would expect nothing less from our friends in California

The controversial California Proposition 19 bill to legalize marijuana has a close vote according to a poll conducted by SurveyUSA, which in a recent survey found that 46% of potential voters are leaning towards voting no, and 44 % leaning towards voting yes. The age demographics plays a big part in the voting, with those 18 to 34 more likely to vote yes, at 59%, and 60% of respondents over 65 probably voting no. There are no predictions yet as to the outcome of the vote, as they polls are still very close at this time. Organizers from both sides are aiming at the undecided voters, with the other decided voters being so close at this point.

While the ethics of this can go both ways, it is a controversial proposal at all levels. Continue Reading California Proposition 19 Still a Close Vote Here

Cholera Outbreak Hits Quake Ravaged Haiti

A cholera outbreak has Haiti’s government and aid workers and organizations fighting today to contain the cholera epidemic. It has killed at least 140 people and has affected more than 1500, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Cholera is a virulent diarrheal disease, which typically comes from contaminated water or food containing the cholera bacteria and isn’t not usually contagious. Outbreaks can be multiplied exponentially for those living in unsanitary and crowded conditions, almost identical to those that Haitian’s now are experiencing. This is the first cholera epidemic in over a century for the Caribbean island nation, whom seems to get more than their fair share of disasters, and it is also the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. One aid worker from the main hospital in Saint-Marc describes it as a “horror scene.”
