Groundwater Contaminants Chart

1 Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) – The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety and are non-enforceable public health goals. Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) – The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology and taking cost into consideration. MCLs are enforceable standards. Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal (MRDLG) – The level of a drinking water disinfectant below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MRDLGs do not reflect the benefits of the use of disinfectants to control microbial contaminants. (TT) Treatment Technique – A required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water. Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL) – The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants. Dolphin Killing in Denmark Faroe Islands

Dolphin killing in Denmark is a ritual requirement for teen passage to manhood, at least in the Faroe Islands. The whole town comes down to the shores, including children whom are kept out of school for the event so they can watch the ritual slaughter of the Calderon Dolphins. They all gather at the bloody shores and watch the bloodbath and listen to the cries of wounded and suffering dolphins like it was a festival of which the local residents proudly claim as their heritage and culture.

Ritual oh shore

Before you go starting a vigil against Denmark, let me set the record straight first of all. The Faroe Islands is an island group and are located between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands are a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, along with Denmark proper and Greenland since 1948 and are not a part of the European Union nor are its citizens members of the EU even if they are Danish citizens living in the Faroe Islands. They are not regulated by the International Whaling Commission for that matter either. Continue Reading Dolphin Killing in Denmark Faroe Islands Here

BP Oil Spill Facts Animal Rehab Centers Still Working Hard After The BP Spill

AP – As the BP Oil Spill Facts are still being determined, local animal rehab centers are still hard at work following the worst oil spill in US history. A baby sea turtle escaped certain death from the jaws of a shark, only to wind up getting stuck amidst the sea of oil spilled from BP’s Deephorizon well in the Gulf of Mexico. A young dolphin was apparently was attacked by it’s mother, then unexpectedly swam into the oil.

These animals are amongst the thousands that have been rescued since more than 200 million gallons of oil began gushing from the Macondo well about 50 miles southeast of the Mississippi River Delta, and among dozens still at Gulf Coast rescue centers five months after the well was capped.

Since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded April 20, rescue officials say 2,079 birds, 456 sea turtles, some terrapins and two dolphins have been plucked from the oil, so the BP Oil Spill facts keep updating. Germany Dioxin Food Scandal Closes 4700 Farms From Contaminated Feed

Germany dioxin food scandal has been widened Friday, as more than 4,700 farms were closed or shut down by regional authorities after testing showed that the animal feed was contaminated by a chemical that is directly linked to causing cancer. All the while fears were growing that the contamination could have entered the food supply chain much earlier than previously thought, as testing on animal fat at the firm in the midst of the scandal reportedly showed they were tainted as far back as March of 2009. The Agriculture Ministry stated on Thursday that “4,709 farms and businesses are currently closed,” including 4,468 in the state of Lower Saxony, northwest Germany. The farms will be closed until further testing shows that they are found to be clear of contamination with dioxin, a toxic chemical compound that can cause cancer, and will be banned from making any deliveries, the ministry added. Eight of Germany’s 16 states were affected by Thursday’s closures, and this represents a small percentage number of the total 375,000 farms that are in Germany.

This dog is ready to protest for his rights!

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1980. Its intent was and is to defend the rights of animals in the United States and abroad. In fact, this Virginia-based organization has affiliates as far away as India and Germany.

This group of people do not focus on the keeping of animals as pets. In fact, they do not officially endorse companion animals, and some of their people and employees claim that keeping animals as house pets is demeaning. Their philosophy involves the moral equivalence of animals, and it tends to focus much more on the use of animals in industry. Fur, food, cosmetics and clothing are the main commercial venues that PETA addresses. Continue Reading People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA An Explanation Here
