USDA New School Lunch Standards Announced By First Lady Michelle Obama & Rachael Ray & Vilsack
First lady Michelle Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced yesterday that big changes are coming to school lunches, which will be the first changes in more than 15 years to the program. According to the new School Meal Programs Provisions and Other Standards, most school meals will have less sodium, more whole grains along with more fruits and vegetables options as side dishes. The popular pizzas will still be on school lunch lines due to lobbyists from the potato growers and food companies, but they will be made with healthier ingredients.
