Greenhouse Gases Cause of Global Warming, Not Sun Activity New NASA Report Confirms

A prolonged solar minimum left the sun's surface nearly free of sunspots and accompanying bright areas called faculae between 2005 and 2010. Total solar irradiance declined slightly as a result, but the Earth continued to absorb more energy than it emit throughout the minimum. An animation of a full solar cycle is available here. In a real brief summary, the study concluded:
Improving observations of ocean heat content show that Earth is absorbing more energy from the Sun than it is radiating to space as heat, even during the recent solar minimum. The inferred planetary energy imbalance, 0.58±0.15Wm−2 during the 6-yr period 2005–2010, confirms the dominant role of the human-made greenhouse effect in driving global climate change.
This imbalance is the primary driver for global warming, since more energy is coming in than leaving and, because it occurred during a period when the sun was emitting comparatively low levels of energy, the imbalance has implications for the cause of global warming. The results of the study confirm greenhouse gases produced by human activities are the most important driver of global climate change, according to the researchers. State of the Union Address 2012: Obama Emphasizes Clean Energy and Environmental Policies
Though he made no mention of Solyndra, the bankrupt solar company that benefited from a government loan program, or Keystone XL, the controversial oil pipeline he rejected to much celebration and criticism last week, the president showed political backbone in refusing to back down from his commitment to investing in developing renewables.
Obama vowed to incentivize manufacturers to make energy upgrades, as well as to green the carbon footprint of the nation’s military. He announced that the Department of Defense will make one of the largest commitments to clean energy in history, with the Navy purchasing enough capacity to power a quarter of a million homes per year. Geothermal Energy Technology Breakthrough at Newberry Volcano, Oregon?
Renewable energy such as geothermal energy has long been held back by energy kings such as cheap natural gas, weak demand for power and declining political concern over global warming and it’s effects. Efforts to use the earth’s heat to generate power, known as geothermal energy, have been further hindered by technological issues and concerns that some of the techniques used to tap into it can create earthquakes.
Keeping that in mind, the federal government, Google and other investors are still interested enough in the technology to wager $43 million on the Newberry Volcano Oregon project. They are helping the company, AltaRock Energy, Inc. of Seattle and Davenport Newberry Holdings LLC of Stamford, Conn., who runs Newberry Geothermal, demonstrate whether the next level in geothermal power development can work on the flanks of Newberry Volcano, located about 20 miles south of Bend, Ore.
Susan Petty, president of AltaRock Energy stated: “We know the heat is there. The big issue is can we circulate enough water through the system to make it economic.” Continue Reading Geothermal Energy Technology Breakthrough at Newberry Volcano, Oregon? Here

Solar Paint ‘Sun-believable’ Could Power Homes in Near Future!

A group of researchers at the University of Notre Dame have made a major advance toward this vision by creating an inexpensive “solar paint” that uses semiconducting nanoparticles to produce energy from the light energy of the sun.
“We want to do something trans-formative, to move beyond current silicon-based solar technology,” says Prashant Kamat, John A. Zahm Professor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry and an investigator in Notre Dame’s Center for Nano Science and Technology (NDnano), who leads the research. McCormick Adds More Solar Power from Constellation Energy
BALTIMORE–Constellation Energy and McCormick & Company, Inc. today announced an agreement to develop a new 1.8-megawatt (DC) solar photovoltaic power system at the McCormick distribution center in Belcamp, Md. This will be the largest single rooftop solar installation in Maryland, and is the second solar installation developed for McCormick by Constellation Energy.
