Alternative Energy Sources – What is Alternative Energy?

Alternative Energy Sources - What is Alternative Energy?

Alternative energy sources, what is alternative energy you ask? The common definition for this tern is that it is an overall term used to refer to any source of usable energy intended to replace fuel sources, and in modern times, without the consequences of pollution or greenhouse gas emissions.

The term “alternative” in this case presupposes the current set of energy technologies against which “alternative energies” are compared. As such, the list of energy technologies excluded is an indicator of which problems the alternative technologies are intended to address. Controversies regarding dominant sources of energy and alternatives to them have a long history, ever since fire was discovered for a matter of fact. The nature of what is regarded as alternative energy sources have considerably changed over time, as with the technologies that we use to extract and utilize them. Currently, in this modern day and age, due to the wide variety of energy choices and differing goals and agenda’s of their advocates, defining some energy types as “alternative” has become highly controversial.

As such, big oil and coal don’t want to lose market share and are launching campaigns to dispel the harmful effects of their energy products .They want to keep that money rolling in, at whatever cost to the environment, and ultimately mankind. They prefer to keep things as they are, and are slow to adapt to the new wave of clean and renewable energy sources, however some progress is being made. Sustainable Energy - The Future is Clear We Must Move Forward With SE

Sustainable energy (SE), with it the future is clear, and much cleaner for that matter! No matter how you look at it, it is one of the most critical aspects of us moving forward and keeping our existing way of life intact. Unfortunately, technology dictates that we need energy, but the sources of that energy are optional. We need it to fuel our transportation, heat our homes, power our computers, phones, lights, and other necessities. Currently we derive only 13% of our total electricity from renewable sources, and that doesn’t include transportation! Currently fossil fuels power most of our energy sources, in the form of coal and oil, or gas. These fuels produce greenhouse gas emissions which is a byproduct of their combustion, which by itself isn’t that harmful, but in the massive quantities we are using it, it is a big problem.

As we previously said, some greenhouse gas emissions are part of the carbon cycle, and in limited use, it isn’t going to affect things all that much, but we have bypassed that plateau of safe usage a long time ago, and in combination with deforestation and other similar events, we are creating a big surplus of greenhouse gas emissions that the planet can’t absorb or cycle properly, thus we are altering the carbon cycle and the chemical makeup of our atmosphere, which is resulting in global warming, or now more commonly referred to as climate change. GOP Led House Passes Cut Version Of Obama's Energy Bill By $6 Billion

On Friday, the Republican led House passed a 30.6 billion dollar energy bill covering the Energy Department and the Army Corps of Engineers programs. The final cost was $1 billion less than this years budget, and $6 billion less the President Barack Obama’s request for the energy and water projects. The Republican leaders called it a model of restraint, but White House officials claimed that it jeopardized economic growth and clean energy projects.

The bill included an amendment that allows companies to continue to make and sell old-school 100 watt light bulbs after January 1, 2012, when they were originally scheduled to be phased out. Previously, Republicans have tried to overturn a 2007 law requiring light bulbs to be more energy efficient starting in 2012, but all previous attempts have failed. The new House bill also blocks the Obama Administration from closing the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste project in Nevada. The government has already spent $15 billion on the project, but it still not open for business, which is storing spent nuclear fuel from power plants. President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada both want to end the program. Continue Reading GOP Led House Passes Cut Version Of Obama’s Energy Bill By Billion Here

How To Install Solar Panels Yourself

How to install solar panels yourself

How to install solar panels yourself

How to install solar panels is a simple guide for the average do it yourselfer who has a little knowledge of electrical power. When you choose solar energy to power your home, you have chosen a simple way to save money by investing in free, renewable energy. Most of us these days don’t have the extra thousands of dollars laying around to hire a professional for installation, which by the way can cost in the tens of thousands of dollars, depending on your location and who you hire.

There are many of us that can’t afford those costs, including DIY enthusiasts such as yourselves have decided to learn how to install solar panels by themselves. If you can follow the directions to put together a desk, dresser or bookcase from a WalMart diy furniture kit, then you can more than likely learn how to install solar panels by yourself too! It is not that difficult!

In the following section, we describe the basics of this task, however before you start this diy project, you should remember this point. Always put your safety first when installing solar panels, especially if you are mounting them onto a roof. Check your local regulations in your area if there are any before buying solar panels for your home as some local laws may have specific rules and regulations about the maximum size of the panels and where they can be positioned. Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? How to Find out is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable

Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? How to Find out if your Electricity is Renewable or Non-Renewable

Is electricity renewable? How to find out if your electricity is renewable or non-renewable. As it currently stands, our current grid and sources of energy come from a wide variety of sources and is not limited to a single power source. To begin with, first we must determine what the renewable and non-renewable energy sources are before we can fully understand and answer this question with a degree of honesty.

In short, electricity is largely produced by power stations burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. Nuclear fission can also be used to produce electricity from nuclear power plants. All these sources of energy are not renewable, which means that there is a finite, or limited amount of these fuels available in the world and when it is all used up, that’s it, there will be no more.

On the other hand, hydro, wind, tidal, geothermal, biomass, and solar power are all regarded as sustainable and renewable forms of energy because they aren’t finite and limited to available resources. We use the energy we obtain from these sources and it still keeps coming, it will not run out! Continue Reading Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? Solar Renewable Energy – Is Solar Energy Renewable and Can it Meet our Energy Needs?

Solar Renewable Energy - Is Solar Energy Renewable and Can it Meet our Energy Needs?

Solar renewable energy, is solar energy renewable is a question many people ask us. It is also a question which is both easy and hard to answer, if that makes sense. It is clean energy, and it is sustainable, and at face value it is renewable, as the sun shines every day. However it is not renewable in the traditional sense that it can’t be replaced or regrown, like biofuels. However it is fairly consistent, and is present every day for up to 16 hours a day in some areas, and at the northern and southern poles, sometimes is visible 24 hours a day, which lead to great opportunities to harness that energy. For more on this aspect, see Renewable and Non Renewable Energy Sources.

The Earth receives an incredible supply of solar energy. The sun, an average star, is a fusion reactor that has been burning over 4 billion years. It provides enough energy in one minute to supply the world’s energy needs for one year. In one day, it provides more energy than our current population would consume in 27 years. In fact, “The amount of solar radiation striking the earth over a three-day period is equivalent to the energy stored in all fossil energy sources.” Continue Reading Solar Renewable Energy – Is Solar Energy Renewable and Can it Meet our Energy Needs?
