Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? How to Find out if your Electricity is Renewable or Non-Renewable

Is electricity renewable? How to find out if your electricity is renewable or non-renewable. As it currently stands, our current grid and sources of energy come from a wide variety of sources and is not limited to a single power source. To begin with, first we must determine what the renewable and non-renewable energy sources are before we can fully understand and answer this question with a degree of honesty.

In short, electricity is largely produced by power stations burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. Nuclear fission can also be used to produce electricity from nuclear power plants. All these sources of energy are not renewable, which means that there is a finite, or limited amount of these fuels available in the world and when it is all used up, that’s it, there will be no more.

On the other hand, hydro, wind, tidal, geothermal, biomass, and solar power are all regarded as sustainable and renewable forms of energy because they aren’t finite and limited to available resources. We use the energy we obtain from these sources and it still keeps coming, it will not run out! Continue Reading Is Electricity Renewable or Non-Renewable? Green Infrastructure – What is Green Infrastructure?

Green Infrastructure What is a Green Infrastructure?

Green Infrastructure What is a Green Infrastructure?

Green infrastructure – What is green infrastructure you ask? It is the interconnected network of open spaces and natural areas, such as greenways, wetlands, parks, forest preserves and native plant vegetation, that manages stormwater, reduces flooding risk and improves water quality naturally. This infrastructure usually costs less to install and maintain when compared to traditional forms of unnatural infrastructure. These natural infrastructure projects also can engage community cohesiveness by encouraging all community residents to get involved in the planning, planting and maintenance of the sites.

Green infrastructure (GI) is an approach that communities can choose to maintain healthy waters, provide multiple environmental benefits and support more sustainable communities. Unlike our current model of single-purpose gray stormwater infrastructure, which utilizes a network of pipes and drains to dispose of rainwater, a GI uses natural and native vegetation and soil to manage the rainwater right where it falls. By weaving natural processes into the built environment, green infrastructure provides not only stormwater management, but also flood mitigation, air quality management, and many more potential benefits. What is Green Power? Anything that isn't bad for the planet sums it up rather well.

What is Green Power you ask? Green Power (GP) is representative of those renewable energy resources and technologies that provide the highest environmental benefit. According to the US EPA, the definition of it as being electricity that is generated from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass, and other low-impact small hydroelectric sources. Electricity consumers often buy renewable power to avoid the environmental impacts of conventional power sources and its greenhouse gas reduction benefits.

The following chart shows that green power is subset of renewable energy and that it represents those renewable resources that provide only the highest environmental benefits and includes solar, wind, biomass, biogas, low-impact hydro, and geothermal.
