Permaculture Design seems prevalent in this community

Permaculture design, or “Permaculture” is a combination of the words “permanent” and “agriculture.” This theory was originally coined an agro-ecological design, it has developed a large international following. This Permaculture Community continues to develop new ideas expanding on old ones, and has resulted in it becoming a form of architecture for nature and ecology. The first modern practice of it as a systematic method recorded was by Sepp Holzer, an Austrian farmer, in the 1960′s. It was officially developed scientifically by two Australians, Bill Mollison and David Holmgren and some of their associates during the 1970′s with a series of publications. It refers to the integration of human beings with nature, with the goal of creating self-sustaining ecosystems which mimic the relationships of man and nature in natural ecologies.

With this system, the goal is to create a stable, productive system that will provide for the humans needs, Continue Reading Permaculture How To Apply Permaculture Design To Your Own Home Here

Native Plants Why We Should Garden With Them

Native plants, why we should garden with them, and when we think of the typical garden, it often conjures up images of perfectly groomed and trimmed plants and flowers amid a clean bed of mulch. Many gardeners choose their plants based on what “look” they want to achieve, or other desired benefits. However, that approach does not take native species into account. There are so many reasons to choose native species over mass-produced, ubiquitous landscape plants. Here are some of those reasons.

1. Pest Resistance

These plants are much more resistant to pests. Do you know someone who grows hybrid roses or tropical imports? They are probably always fighting June beetles and other pests. Trees that are Draught Tolerant Include This Rocky Mountain Juniper

Trees that are drought tolerant, and if you live in an area that is slightly parched of water, you know better than anyone that one of the things that decides whether a tree survives or not is your ability to supply it with sufficient water. Unfortunately, many people don’t take this in to account when buying a tree. They will just go for the nicest looking tree, and then wish they could give it more water. If you do a little planning before you rush out and buy a tree, you should be able to find trees that can survive on lower amounts of water.

Usually the most adaptable plants are the ones that are indigenous anyways. If you live in a zone that is suffering a water crisis, usually the only plants that survive are the ones that have been there all along. Continue Reading Trees Drought Tolerant Here
