Alternative Energy Sources - What is Alternative Energy?

Alternative energy sources, what is alternative energy you ask? The common definition for this tern is that it is an overall term used to refer to any source of usable energy intended to replace fuel sources, and in modern times, without the consequences of pollution or greenhouse gas emissions.

The term “alternative” in this case presupposes the current set of energy technologies against which “alternative energies” are compared. As such, the list of energy technologies excluded is an indicator of which problems the alternative technologies are intended to address. Controversies regarding dominant sources of energy and alternatives to them have a long history, ever since fire was discovered for a matter of fact. The nature of what is regarded as alternative energy sources have considerably changed over time, as with the technologies that we use to extract and utilize them. Currently, in this modern day and age, due to the wide variety of energy choices and differing goals and agenda’s of their advocates, defining some energy types as “alternative” has become highly controversial.

As such, big oil and coal don’t want to lose market share and are launching campaigns to dispel the harmful effects of their energy products .They want to keep that money rolling in, at whatever cost to the environment, and ultimately mankind. They prefer to keep things as they are, and are slow to adapt to the new wave of clean and renewable energy sources, however some progress is being made. Antiques are a great way to save money and resources

Antiques Are a Green Alternative to New Furniture and today, most people are quite conscious of waste, and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle is a concern for many. Furniture, which is not only bulky but often made with synthetic materials, is a concern for the eco-conscious when it comes time to get rid of it. Antiques are a green alternative to new furniture in that you are in essence recycling old furniture and not purchasing new furniture, lessening the demand for new wood, and the carbon footprint that goes into the manufacturing of new furniture. Rising Gas Prices Explained: Will Gas Prices Continue to Rise?

oil,gas,prices,speculation,price,speculators,contracts,demand,libya,barrels,gas prices

Gas Prices rising have many of us saying OMG and WTF

Gas prices are certainly a concern for all of us, considering most of us, especially in America need to drive. While many here in America think it is President Obama’s fault, it is not. That is either right wing propaganda at work, misinformation, or lack of understanding and knowledge on the subject. President Obama Strikes Back At GOP Critics On Gas Prices who are using this situation to again further their own political agenda, and not working on anything like reining in greedy speculators on Wall Street. Obama has done nothing that would set off a surge in these prices. In fact, the United States is producing more home grown oil and natural gas than it has in a long time.

The thing we must consider is the world economy is improving, demand in other areas of the world is rising, and speculators are taking advantage of the situation in the Middle East again to boost profits for Wall Street. In a report last week in Bloomberg Business Week it is considered that oil speculators have already priced in a war with Iran.

Bankers energy profits

Bankers taking price gouging in energy prices and turning it into the next bubble?

Most oil analysts will point out that more than half of the spike in oil pricing is due to speculators, and more specifically, noncommercial users. Those noncommercial users consist of investors, many of which are from Wall Street who buy up futures contracts not because they will use the oil, but for an investment and are betting that the price will go up. So far the bets are paying off, thanks primarily to themselves. Continue Reading Rising Gas Prices Explained: Will Gas Prices Continue to Rise? Here

Solar Power Advantages and Disadvantages Explained

Solar Power Advantages and Disadvantages Explained

Solar power advantages and disadvantages can help to explain why it is not a more common power source in our society. Let us begin to explain why it isn’t more of a mainstream energy source today than we would like it to be.

For starters, the initial costs are expensive, however, Solar Power Prices Are Falling Quickly, and expected to be less expensive than the grid by 2015 in certain locations. Another point to consider as to why solar is not more mainstream yet is that Fossil Fuel Subsidies are six times more than renewable energy, at the least. If all tax breaks and other aid is included in calculating fossil fuel subsidies, that figure is even higher! One good thing to note here, in 2010 the US had a 186% increase from 2007 in US renewable energy subsidies . Even after the Solyndra failure, Obama Stands by Renewable Energy Aid, which shows he is doing what he can to help the environment amidst an increasingly arrogant and anti-environment right wing movement. State of the Union Address 2012: Obama Emphasizes Clean Energy and Environmental Policies

In his State of the Union Address 2012, President Barack Obama emphasized clean energy and environmental policies as he clearly laid out his energy agenda in Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, promising “responsible development” of domestic oil and natural gas even as he pledged to invest in renewable energy. “We don’t have to choose between our environment and our economy,” he said.

Though he made no mention of Solyndra, the bankrupt solar company that benefited from a government loan program, or Keystone XL, the controversial oil pipeline he rejected to much celebration and criticism last week, the president showed political backbone in refusing to back down from his commitment to investing in developing renewables.

Obama vowed to incentivize manufacturers to make energy upgrades, as well as to green the carbon footprint of the nation’s military. He announced that the Department of Defense will make one of the largest commitments to clean energy in history, with the Navy purchasing enough capacity to power a quarter of a million homes per year. Keystone XL Pipeline Deal Rejected By President Obama - Stands up to big oil - Good for him!

The Keystone XL Pipeline Deal was denied by President Obama, who, acting on a recommendation from the State Department on Wednesday, denied the permit for the contentious Keystone XL pipeline proposal, which would have linked a vast oil deposit in Alberta, Canada, to refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast.

In defense of his actions of rejecting the permit, Obama placed blame on the Republicans in Congress, who in using brinkmanship forced passage of a measure late last month requiring the administration to render a decision on the pipeline by Feb. 21.
