National Wear Red Day 2011 Is Friday February 4 2011 Help With A Heart

Today, Feb 4, 2011 is officially designated National Wear Red Day 2011, and people across the nation are encouraged to wear red to show support for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Campaign and to also help to raise the awareness of heart disease. Celebrities like Betty White and Jennie Garth are among the many celebrities whom are supporting the effort. Since this annual Go Red For Women campaign was launched in 2004, cities across the nation have transformed their prominent landmarks to red on this meaningful day to help raise awareness for this cause. Some of the more prominent landmarks to have been transformed in the past include the Empire State Building, Niagra Falls, the Pike Place Market in Seattle, and State Capitol Buildings across the land.

So if you are surrounded in a sea of red today and don’t know why, this is your reason, and hence, as the campaign suggests, raises the awareness for this worthy cause. This year, as in the rest, the fashion industry typically leads the way in this effort, and holds its annual The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection Fashion Show, which is typically held on the eve of Fashion Week’s start in New York. The show will commence on February 9, and will feature such celebrities as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Dita Von Teese, Julianne Hough, Alison Sweeney, and Eve, whom all will be wearing red dresses, of course, created by designers from the likes of Donna Karan, Zac Posen, Badgley Mischka, Oscar de la Renta, and Monique Lhuillier. Some of the gowns that will be featured in this show will be auctioned off after the show to help raise money for the cause. This fashion show begins Wednesday Feb 9, 2011 at 7 PM EDT and is going to be live on CBSNews.com The Heart Truth page.

Getting involved is easier than you think! Wear a red sweater. Ask the men in your life to wear red. Pick a day where you and your friends all show up to work in red, set up a fundraising page, donate now, or Shop Go Red to support the movement for this American Heart Association event. For next year, we will be better prepared and hold a fundraising event, so stay tuned!

Donations to Go Red For Women help support the American Heart Association’s efforts to educate women and to help fund breakthrough research by the American Heart Association that helps ensure women are represented in clinical studies. Since 2004, through its fundraising efforts, Go Red For Women has contributed almost $44 million to women-focused research and has provided additional funds to life-saving educational programs and tools for physicians. 23% of this goes to research, while 40% goes to public health education, and 13% goes to educating healthcare professionals.
