This girl is all smiles while carrying her superfoods from the worlds healthiest foods list

The worlds healthiest foods can vary according to your geographic location. For some of us, some exotic foods may just either be unattainable, or just too expensive. For the most part, however, there are local foods and foods right at the local grocery store or farmers market that would fit into this category very nicely.

While there are many good foods located most anywhere food can be grown around the world, there is one thing to consider when developing a healthy diet, which is to eat whole foods with minimal processing, which is very important in the worlds healthiest foods.

Most people don’t eat right, whether it be lack of time, lack of money, or a taste for unhealthy foods, it is a problem for many. They also have new diets that come out just about every week, and some of those are not healthy, and most won’t work for most people.

People who are not living in developed nations and that eat diets like those of their ancestors and thrive on high protein, high fat diets such as the Inuit of Greenland; low protein, high carb diets like the southern Africa indigenous people; diets with high intake of raw milk and cream, such as the Loetschental Valley of Switzerland; diets that are high in saturated fats like that of the Tobriand Islanders; and even diets that consider animal blood a staple such as that of the Massai from Kenya and Tanzania. These less sophisticated dieters have thrived on these diets for centuries without the ravages of degenerative diseases that have become epidemics in modernized worlds, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, neurodegenerative diseases, osteoporosis and cancer.

Having fun with the superfoods!

The diets described above do all have one thing in common, and that is that they are all based on whole foods with a minimum of processing involved, including nuts, berries, beans, raw milk, and grass fed meats. Whole, real, unprocessed foods are almost always healthy, no matter how much carbs, protein or fat that they contain! These diets also have another thing in common with each other, no bar codes! They are also low in sugar.

Truth be told, what foods you eat probably matters less than how much processing it’s undergone. Real food, or whole food with minimal processing contains a virtual pharmacy of nutrients, phytochemicals, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories and healthful fats, and can easily keep you alive and thriving into your 10th decade. And you wonder why grandma is living or lived so long!

Berries, for example, are very low in calories, contain high amounts of fiber, and are filled with plant compounds that improve memory and help fight off cancer cells. Medical studies have consistently shown that nut-eaters have lower rates of heart disease. Beans are famously known for their high fiber content and are also a large part of the diet of people from almost every corner of the globe who typically lead long and healthy lives.

More Surprising Superfoods in the Worlds Healthiest Foods List

Another item, protein, which comes from a Greek word meaning “of prime importance”, is an important feature of every healthy diet ever studied. Meat, a major source of protein, in contradiction to its terrible reputation, can be a health food if, and this is a huge if, the meat comes from animals that have been raised on pasture land, have never seen the inside of a feedlot farm and have never been shot full of antibiotics and hormones, or in todays terms, organic, or natural.

The same can be said for raw milk, generally believed to be one of the healthiest drinks on the planet by countless devotees who often go to great expense and inconvenience to obtain it from small, sustainable farms.

Another surprising superfood, wild salmon, whose omega-3 content is always higher than its farm-raised brethren, gets its red color from a powerful antioxidant called astaxathin. The combination of protein, omega-3s and antioxidants makes wild salmon a contender for anyone’s list of great superfoods.

Another great surprising superfood is eggs, which is one of nature’s most perfect creations. A long time favorite of body builders and athletes (remember Rocky 1, when he drank the raw eggs?). This superfood status is true for eggs, especially if you don’t throw out the all-important yolk. Remember that “whole” foods means exactly what it implies, foods in their original form. Our robust late great ancestors did not eat low-fat caribou, and we don’t need to be eating egg-white omelets, except maybe for our vanity.

When we talk of vegetables, there really are no such thing as bad vegetables, bet you didn’t want to hear that though! Alas, their are also some superstars of course in the vegetable family. Any vegetable from the Brassica genus, such as broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and kale, are loaded with plant chemicals called indoles, which help to reduce the risk of cancer.

When we are talking about the fruit kingdom of food, apples are totally deserving of their reputation as doctor-repellants as they are chock full of fiber, minerals (like bone-building boron) and phytochemicals (like quercetin, which is known to be a powerful anti-inflammatory and to have anti-cancer properties). Some very exciting new research suggests that pomegranate juice slows the progression of certain cancers as well. Other research shows it lowers blood pressure and may even act as a “natural Viagra.”

One very important point to remember when using fresh foods, especially fruits and vegetables, is to wash them thoroughly! Remember that many of today’s commercial farming operations use pesticides and maybe other chemicals in the growing and processing of them. You don’t want to waste all the good nutrition by counteracting it with harmful chemicals you may ingest! We currently have access to the best all natural food cleaner on the market, the Eat Cleaner, by Grow Green Industries, Inc. from Orange County, CA. Another superfood we need to mention here is Tea, and it deserves special mention on any list of the world’s healthiest foods. The second most widely consumed beverage in the world (after water of course), all forms of tea (black, oolong, white, green and the newer Yerba Matte) are fully loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Some types (green tea, for example) contain plant chemicals called catechins which have decided anti-cancer activity. Green tea is also believed to be good in the prevention of skin cancer and lung cancer.

Last, but not least, let’s not forget the members of the Alliaceae family of plants which give us some great flavors and aromas. This family includes onions, garlic and shallots. Garlic has been used for thousands of years for its medicinal properties, including hundreds of published studies that support its antimicrobial effects as well as its ability to lower the risk of heart disease. A number of case studies have shown an inverse relationship between onion consumption and certain types of cancer as well.

When we are talking a true healthy diet here, it doesn’t mean it has to contain every one of these worlds healthiest foods, but you surely can’t do any wrong by putting as many of the above mentioned superfoods on your plates daily as part of your new diet!
